Congrats to the 2016 Centennial 1st & 2nd Bands on receiving Straight Ones from all the judges at UIL Concert & Sight Reading. 1st time in school history! Fantastic performances!!!
1st Band –“Wind Ensemble”
1.
The Wind Ensemble is the top ensemble at Centennial
High School and plays College Level Literature.
The members of this ensemble have the highest musical expectations &
play extremely demanding music. The tone
quality & technical ability of a 1st band member is at the
highest level for High School students & in many cases on a college level.
2.
Practice requirements – members will need to
practice 4-5 hours per week outside of rehearsal time. This will be necessary to maintain a high
level of achievement expected of all 1st band members.
3.
Rehearsals – there will be rehearsals before
school after marching season that members are required to come to. These will be a grade.
4.
All-Region - Members are required to audition for
the All-Region Band. All members are
required to learn & perform the All-Region music at a high level for mock
auditions held during class time. There
will be grades taken on the All-Region music.
5.
Solo & Ensemble – members are required to
perform a Class 1 solo and/or Class 1 Ensemble for UIL Solo & Ensemble
Competition & the S/E Recital Concert.
6.
Smart Music - 1st Band members are
expected to complete all Smart Music Assignments on time. Members are expected
to pass off their UIL and Marching Band music with a 95 or higher.
7.
Any members not upholding the highest standard
of excellence may be moved down a band at the semester.
2nd
Band – “Wind Symphony”
1.
The Wind Symphony is the 2nd highest
ensemble at Centennial High School and plays Advanced Level Literature. The members of this ensemble have high
expectations and are being prepared for auditioning for the 1st band. The tone quality & technical ability of a
2nd band member is very high and is continuing to improve to a 1st
band level.
2.
Practice Requirements – members will need to
practice a minimum 3-4 hours outside of rehearsal time.
3.
Rehearsals – there will be rehearsals before
school after marching season that members are required to come to. These will be a grade.
4.
All-Region – Members are required to learn the
All-Region music. Members performing
their music at a high level will be encouraged to audition for the All-Region
Band.
5.
Solo & Ensemble – members are encouraged to
perform a Class 1 or 2 solo and/or Class 1 or 2 Ensemble for UIL Solo &
Ensemble and/or the S/E Recital Concert.
6.
Smart Music - 2nd Band members are
expected to complete all Smart Music assignments on time. Members are expected
to pass off their UIL and Marching Band music with a 95 or higher.
7.
Any members not upholding these standards may be
moved down a band at the semester.
3rd
Band – “Symphonic Band”
1.
The Symphonic Band is the 3rd Band at
Centennial High School & plays Intermediate Level Literature. The Symphonic Band members are learning
technical skills & good tone quality to prepare them to audition for the 2nd
Band. The 3rd band is
typically where MOST Freshman start.
2.
Practice Requirements – members will need to
practice a minimum of 2-3 hours outside of rehearsal time.
3.
Rehearsals – there will be some required
rehearsals before or after school before concerts & UIL concert & sight
reading contest.
4.
Solo & Ensemble – members are encouraged to
perform a Class 2 (Class 3 for 9th grade only) for UIL Solo &
Ensemble and/or the S/E Recital Concert.
5.
Smart Music - 3rd Band Members are
expected to complete all Smart Music Assignments on time. Members are expected to pass off their UIL Concert
Band and Marching Band music with a 95 or higher.
